About
The 100 Ekurhuleni Shining Stars is an annual recognition and celebration of Ekurhuleni young residents committed to service in various fields of interest. These youngsters are innovative and inspire solution-driven ways to shape Ekurhuleni’s future outlook and the
people who live here. Ekurhuleni seeks to honour these change agents who embody the spirit of former State President Nelson Mandela and political activist Mama Albertina Sisulu who were about service to the people of South Africa first and foremost, committed to working for dignified lives only characterized by decent education, caring for one another, good health system and active citizenship. Both Madiba and Mama Sisulu would have celebrated their centenary, thus the magic number – of 100 Ekurhuleni Shining Stars who have hatched ideas and concepts that are actively transforming business, social and political environments, and are already doing it successfully in Ekurhuleni.
Our purpose
To acknowledge and recognise the young citizens of Ekurhuleni who are leading the regeneration and transformation of how we work, live and play.
To encourage the spirit of contributing to the economy
To encourage community leadership in the city
To create economic awareness in the communities of Ekurhuleni
To reward and encourage excellence in innovative solutions to challenges in communities
Eligibility
All young people aged 18 and no older than 35 years, who currently reside in the City of Ekurhuleni, shall be nominated or self nominate for this recognition. They shall have proven record of having simultaneously created a solution and helped with uplifting their communities. Communities around the City of Ekurhuleni will be encouraged to nominate youngsters who fulfill the requirements, while different municipalities will also be encouraged to help identify such youngsters.
