SA MILITARY OMBUD HOSTS A DIALOGUE WITH STAKEHOLDERS TO ENHANCE ITS MANDATE
The South African Military Ombud, Lt General (Ret) T.T. Matanzima invites members of the media to his Annual Military Ombud Symposium to mark the 6th Anniversary of his Office on Wednesday, 30 May 2018 at the Velmore Hotel in Erasmia, Pretoria.
Established in 2012, the Office of the Military Ombud is entrusted with the responsibility of investigating complaints lodged in writing by current and former members of the SANDF who are not satisfied with their conditions of service. The Office also investigates complaints reported by members of the public concerning the official conduct of members of the SANDF.
The event will be celebrated under the theme,” Enhancing the role of the military ombud in keeping the armed forces accountable.”
The keynote address will be delivered by Judge Bernard Ngoepe. Reputable speakers such as the Public Protector Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane, Chairperson of the Defence Public Commission, Prof Edna Lorraine Van Harte, Political Analyst Dr Somadoda Fikeni and Advocate Sipho Mantula, Researcher UNISA Institute for Dispute Resolution in Africa (IDRA) will share ideas and deliberate on issues intended to deepen an understanding on the concept of the Ombudsmen and their functionality.
